How to Respond to App Store Reviews (Without Sounding Like a Robot)

Replies show up to every future visitor. A thoughtful one raises the bar for the entire listing. Here's how to write them.

Review replies aren't customer service โ€” they're public marketing. Every reply shows up to every future store visitor. Treat it that way.

The three-part reply template

  1. Acknowledge the specific thing they mentioned (not a generic thank-you).
  2. Explain or fix (if you fixed it, say which version).
  3. Invite them to reach out via a real email, not a contact form.

Handle the angry ones in public

One-star reviews that get a calm, specific reply read as credibility signals to everyone else. Avoid defensive language; acknowledge the point and say what you changed.

What to prioritize

Start with 1-star reviews under 60 days old โ€” they still have the biggest weight on your average. Then 2-star. Ignore 5-star reviews with no body text unless you have bandwidth.
