iOS App Preview Videos: Specs, Tips & How to Make One That Converts
App Previews auto-play in search results. That's either your biggest conversion boost or your biggest conversion drag. No middle ground.
Apple plays your App Preview silently in search and on your product page. A great one lifts install rate noticeably. A bad one is worse than nothing.
Current specs
- Length: 15–30 seconds.
- Resolution: match the device class — 886 × 1920 for 6.7-inch phones, 1080 × 1920 acceptable.
- File size: up to 500 MB.
- Format: .mov, .m4v or .mp4 with H.264 encoding.
- Sound: autoplay is muted, so design for silent viewing.
Structure that works
Hook in the first second. Feature loop for 20 seconds. End card with a value prop. Treat the first second like a TikTok — if the thumbnail doesn't grab, nobody watches.
Do you need one?
For utility apps: probably not. For games, content apps, and anything visually rich: yes. Skip it if your best attempt is a screen recording with ambient music.
